Johnson has been elected Chair of the Board by unanimous board vote. “Linda’s passion for equal access to creative resources for all people is a hallmark of her work on the Sing for Hope board as well as her transformational leadership of Brooklyn Public Library. Hit TV show Broad City featured a familiar face (using “face” loosely) in the penultimate episode: this Sing for Hope Piano by incredible SFH Piano Artist Lexy Ho-Tai! From the Unisphere to Washington Square Park & hit TV, to its permanent home at PS 64Q, Ho-Tai’s SFH Piano has lived quite a New York life.
Sing for Hope partnered with the Richard Tucker Music Foundation to bring holiday cheer to the staff, patients, and families of SFH Healing Arts site The Mount Sinai Hospital. It was truly a holiday concert for the ages, featuring Angel Blue, Stephen Costello, Lucas Meachem, and Brent Funderburk.
On Tuesday, December 11th, Sing for Hope united young artists from Queens and Haiti for an afternoon of performance, collaboration, and community-building through the universal language of the arts. The Andrea Bocelli Foundation’s “Voices of Haiti” Choir, which performed with Mr. Bocelli at Madison Square Garden the following night, exchanged performances and stories with the middle school choir at IS 10 Horace Greeley, one of 180 Sing for Hope partner schools.
It’s been a melodious fall in NYC public schools. There are now 180 Sing for Hope Citizen Artist Schools in NYC, 50 of them new this year. In partnership with the NYC Department of Education, we selected these schools through a competitive RFP process to become permanent homes for the Sing for Hope Pianos featured each June. Sing for Hope staff, Piano Artists, and Artist Partners have been busy visiting these schools for their inaugural Citizen Artist Assemblies.
