Artist Statement: When I was asked to design and paint a piano for Sing for Hope on behalf of Aladdin on Broadway, I knew I wanted to connect the magic of our show with the power of music. Broadway is the creative heart of New York City — bright lights, music, and epic storytelling. I envisioned the iconic Aladdin lamp lighting up the night sky with music — and what better way to do that than with actual physical pieces of "A Whole New World" sheet music? I also wanted to capture the romance of the magic carpet against the moon as well as the beautiful Agrabah skyline. I hope the design evokes the feeling of how music, community, and a little faith in the whimsical has the power to transport us and make dreams come alive.

Beyond her stage work, Sonya Balsara is committed to using her platform to advocate for diversity and representation in the arts. She actively participates in initiatives aimed at supporting aspiring performers from underrepresented communities and is passionate about creating inclusive spaces within the theater industry.
