Sing for Hope Pianos 2025 : Blue Note Jazz Fest Presents Black Radio Experience

Color Blind

2025

Artist Statement: For the 2025 Blue Note Jazz Festival in Napa, I created six painted Sing for Hope Pianos—each one a living canvas, each one a reflection of a different chapter of my journey. These SFH Pianos are more than instruments; they are storytellers. They carry the weight of my experiences, the rhythm of my growth, and the pulse of the cultures and communities that shaped me. Every Sing for Hope Piano embodies a distinct artistic language I’ve developed throughout my career. Together, they form a conversation: about healing, about self-expression, about resilience. One explores the necessity of emotional, spiritual, and mental health over material luxuries. Another interprets my upbringing—between the Bronx, New York, and South Carolina—and the dual perspectives those worlds gave me. Some reflect my time in the music industry, the struggles and triumphs of producing sound; others dive into Black culture through abstraction and into what I call Black Futurism—a vision of possibility, resilience, and beauty beyond boundaries. For me, these works are not just about color, shape, or music—they are about becoming. They are about how a man learns to speak feelings when words fall short. They are about honoring where I come from, and imagining where we, collectively, can go. I want these Sing for Hope Pianos to feel both familiar and otherworldly, like a song you’ve never heard before but somehow already know. My hope is that those who see them not only witness my art, but also feel invited to reflect on their own growth, their own inner rhythms, and the deeper harmonies that connect us all.
