Artist Statement: Our Team Viento piano started as a community piano secured for Viento y Agua Coffeehouse a few years back as part of ongoing music events and monthly Saturday family music coffeehouse events. The piano began from concept to design in pandemic, in the fall of 2020. Spacing the planning between intermittent periods of lockdown, families arrived with their masks to paint marigolds and over 20 students helped paint the marigolds. The design started as an idea to highlight the Mexican art and feel of the cafe space. The title came from a song from the Disney movie Coco, themed around Día de los Muertos, and the lyrics and music by composer Germaine Franco embody the spirit of the piano, that through sharing music we connect the stories and songs of the past, present and future, and become one united in the ideal of “art for all.”
Jordan Young - Finding an interest in art at an early age, I was always encouraged to have a creative spirit. Never realizing a living could be made from creating and expressing oneself through their art, when weighing options for college, becoming an artist was never considered. While attending Orange Coast Community College I began my studies in ceramics in 2013, sculpting and throwing clay became a new passion. Receiving a Bachelor in Fine Arts with a concentration in Ceramics from California State University Fullerton in 2019, also a Certificate in Ceramics from Orange Coast College in 2016, college education has become an essential part of my life. While having a focus in ceramics, I also had the chance to study a variety of mediums including glass, wood, metal, plastics, and adhesives, this knowledge greatly expanded the possibilities of what could be created. I plan to continue to work as an artist, entering work into shows and galleries with the possibility of becoming an art educator.
