Unity Makes Strength

2024

Artist Statement: As an artist, there is no greater pleasure for me than finding genuine growth and improvement in my projects. As I have grown and matured, so has my art. My priority is to create a better understanding and address the elephant in the room. I aim to create beauty in the world with my art. I alone cannot change society for the better, but I can only transform my own consciousness into my work to inspire others. The goal is to add a little seed of love, unity, and peace within everyone.

About the Artist

  • Naderson Saint-Pierre

    Naderson Saint-Pierre

Naderson Saint Pierre painting started out as a hobby, in 2016 his practice took start as he began to build his foundation. However, it was not always something he thought he could make a living with. Naderson realized he had something valuable to share with the world and turned painting one day out of the week to full time. Since turning his passion into a profession, Naderson has painted prolifically and is constantly exploring new skills, genres and ideas. It’s incredibly hard work, but the love he had for his work is genuine. Saint-Pierre paints colorful, compelling black portraiture. While he describes himself as a self-taught artist, his work is a testament to his incredible raw skill and precise technique. Often autobiographical and rich in narrative, his portraits highlight and celebrate an image of black identity, with odes to pioneers in the art world while carving out a style that is uniquely Saint-Pierre’s own." Even as a young child, Naderson would conjure up stories with his imagination, sharing them with anyone who would listen. Naderson developed his drawing and painting quite a bit since then, but the thrill of language and creation he first discovered as a child has never gone away. He's been painting professionally since 2016 and has no intention of slowing down anytime soon. Saint Pierre’s move to NYC was primarily unplanned. Upon solidifying his spot in the group exhibition “Basquiat Lives” he traveled up with his works and soon became enamored with the energy of the city. Using the inspiration from his arrival he created works feverishly. He could be found painting every day in subway stations and in Washington Square Park. Each time he went out to create a new piece, he found that he would sell his freshly created works to collectors on the spot. This hustle mentality fortified his willpower to grow even more and his hunger for artistic greatness developed even stronger. Saint Pierre did not have a plan before moving to NYC but his talent and tenacity coupled together was powerful and allowed him to transition from homelessness to being a full time artist with multiple exhibitions and residencies throughout NYC. Saint Pierre has participated in over 21 exhibitions since his arrival in New York City.
