Artist Statement: Music saved Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons. In the beginning, there was Tommy DeVito, a loudmouthed hustler whose guitar work almost matched his swagger. He brought together Nick Massi, a bass player and singer with a genius for harmony, and Frankie Valli, a kid with one of the best voices for miles around. For a while, it seemed these Jersey Boys were more likely to wind up in Sing Sing than in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. After all, knocking over a jewelry store could bring in more cash than a Newark club date. Heck, they even once broke into a church to practice on a piano. This was their life in Jersey. But they stayed with the music, and it got them up and out of their neighborhood. Music can take you places- in body and in memory. We share the Four Seasons’ story with music on our stage, we want others to be able to share theirs.
They were just four guys from Jersey, until they sang their very first note. They had a sound nobody had ever heard… and the radio just couldn’t get enough of. But while their harmonies were perfect on stage, off stage it was a very different story — a story that has made them an international sensation all over again. Go behind the music and inside the story of Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons in the Tony Award®-winning true-life musical phenomenon, JERSEY BOYS. From the streets of New Jersey to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, this is the musical that’s just too good to be true.
