Artist Statement: “NYCymatics” brings awareness to the process of making sound visible to the human eye – seeing sound. Painted in the artist’s signature colors, the piano is covered in a pattern or cymaglyph that reflects the visualization of piano notes. We can imagine sound waves vibrating and bouncing off of buildings and crisscrossing the 5 boroughs – creating invisible musical patterns in the sky.

ARTIST
Yazmeen Collazo
Yazmeen is a fine artist and muralist based in NYC. Inspired by 80s graffiti in her native borough of The Bronx, she uses a variety of media to create her depictions of life in the city. Her work is motivated by both the possibility of the materials and the process of experimentation – during which accidental discoveries often lead to new ideas. Yazmeen has been featured in mural projects in NYC, Puerto Rico, and Ecuador, and is an art educator at several schools and museums.
