Artist Statement: My idea is inspired by the jazz music produced both in Havana, Cuba and New Orleans. It came out to represent the musical sisterhood between these cities I love.
I was born in Havana. From 2006 to 2008 he studied at the National Bellas Artes School San Alejandro in Havana. In 2008 I left Cuba, settling in Florida. I had my first solo show, "Sueˆ–os de la Libertad", in 2009 at the Zu Gallery in Miami. My paintings are often set in Havana where everyday hardships intersect with half a millennium of cultural legacy. My art was displayed at various group exhibitions and museums and comprised two solo shows in New Orleans: ’Reflection and the Diasporic Epic’ which was held at the Mexican Cultural Institute in 2018 and ’The Parade Ends’ at the Jonathan Ferrara Gallery in 2020. Miami, the other city where I show my works more regularly, is currently showing my last personal exhibition at the Miami Hispanic Cultural Art Center, with the title: "Habana Mia, El Gran Solar" A painting of mine was recently admitted into the collection of the Denver Art Museum in Colorado. My more polemic piece "Rebellion in the Island" can be found at the American Museum of Cuban Diaspora in Miami, Florida. I am currently living and working in New Orleans, Louisiana. I decided to establish myself in this city and keep developing my art.
