Artist Statement: The concept for this design is to use recycled materials to create a bouquet of flowers, with the hope of accentuating the idea of breathing new life into something old or discarded.
"Jaquan Washington is a painter and muralist who works predominantly with found or recycled materials. From old painter’s drop cloth, textile, discarded plywood and lumber, he seeks to balance out the creating of a new object by reusing as much as possible. He also enjoys the process of taking something that may on its own be ugly or useless but, paired with other seemingly worthless items, becomes something beautiful and useful. by taking this approach to my practice, I feel connected to something that is fundamental to us as species, being adaptable, and using all my mental faculties to overcome the limitations of the materials I use.
