Artist Statement: "The piano was inspired, designed, and painted through the collective efforts of the 2017–2018 NYC Civic Corps cohort who through their continued service exemplify the best aspects of providing public service to others. This SFH Piano was created in collaboration with Jennifer Kakaletris (jenniferkakaletris.com)"
Each year, NYC Service, in the Office of the Mayor, places 100 NYC Civic Corps members (AmeriCorps) at 50 City agencies and community-based organizations to serve a service term lasting from September to mid-July. These AmeriCorps members serve full-time to build volunteer management systems and leverage 50,000 volunteers to increase the quality and quantity of services delivered to underserved and vulnerable individuals in all five boroughs. NYC Civic Corps members spend their term serving at a New York City community-based organization or City agency, supporting the organization's volunteerism efforts. Civic Corps members recruit, manage, and engage volunteers to address impact areas that are priorities of New York City and the nation.
