Artist Statement:
Ana Rebeca is Peces Con Mar. Peces Con Mar is Ana Rebeca. She’s an illustrator, muralist, teacher, reader, observer and thinker that is also a Dominican transplant. My Caribbean Afro-Latinx identity impacts my art work both using it as a medium to represent people like me in art pieces, objects with wider noses and curly kinks and wide mouths and brown skin, as well as the bodies of water and coast I grew up surrounded by. I feel like I either gravitate towards drawing and painting faces and portraits or drawing abstract/conceptual pieces with a heavy concentration of lines and shapes that tend to make up an image. My art process is that I sketch compulsively, in the train, in the bus, while waiting, while in bed, with friends, during dinner, sometimes even during meetings whenever I can I tend to sketch. So this is the final version of a sketch I made and loved. Afterwards, I chose sketches that I love and make them into pieces, adding on and taking away, usually it transform itself into a different kind of animal.
