Artist Statement: Given that the canvases are all very different, it is important to be flexible in the proposed concept. The size and shape of the piano has informed the flow of the artwork as a whole, and I have sanded the piano down to let the wood grain accent the design where appropriate. The piano is covered in seemingly random splashes and sprays of color harkening somewhat of a vibrant Rorschach Test. Completing multiple layers of this technique creates rich textures that are the groundwork for the next step. I then outlined images of imaginary creatures that were organically suggested by the initial splatters. Enhancing these images with additional detail and patterns make them really pop against the background while still leaving room for people to apply their own interpretation and visions.
