Artist Statement: I painted this piano while referencing existing elements of cartoon illustrations. What I describe as abstract linear gestures should feel visually familiar to some. It is composed of parts of feet, heads, arms, hands, and mouths - all falling into place like a living animation. A playful and light hearted piece, it is ready to dance, walk, and run down the street with every song.
I'm interested in creating an intimate visual language using collage, illustration, and painting techniques to manipulate found imagery. I've included materials from advertisement, posters, comic books, and transportation maps. The painting and illustration aspects of my work are used to create a personal mythology. I present disassembled figures and shapes in various fictional situations, informed by collected experiences, conversations with strangers, and social/political events.
