Artist Statement: Do you use text emojis in your communication in daily life? I’m sure you will answer “Yes”. It is easier, faster and shorter than writing a message. My concept was to use smiley face emojis to represent emotions and opinions. I hope music from the piano will spread messages like emojis do to people around the world. The smiley face pattern on the piano glows in the dark. We will see them and smile all day with different views between day and night.
A native of Thailand, Poramit has worked as a graphic designer since he graduated with his Master of Arts in Computer Graphics from NYIT. He worked in the magazine publishing field for over a decade before deciding to become a full-time artist. He has worked on mixed media, cyanotype and unconventional materials sculpture for the past five years. Poramit is also interested in 3D sculpture and photography. He has used recycled materials to build sculptures and installations that have been exhibited throughout the New York Metropolitan area and across the US.
