Artist Statement: I covered my piano in my little portraits, first painting the piano black, then decoupaging the post-it notes with finished portraits to the piano. The post-its cover the piano with little bits of black paint showing underneath here and there based on arrangement of the post-its, which in my mind are not geometrically arranged but more like the disarray of New York- at angles, some places on the piano quite crowded others more dispersed, sporadic.
Claire Kuttler is an opera singing sketch artist, who began drawing small portraits on 3"x 3" post-it notes while working at an office job. It quickly became quite an obsession and daily habit. Claire now does commissioned portraits of people and their pets (mostly dogs), still on post-its, for birthdays/anniversaries/anytime gifts, and has raised funds for charities that support women's health with the sketches. It is a joy for Claire to spend time with someone's face, capturing that individual's image and personality in a quick but unique little ink portrait.
