Artist Statement: What inspires a musician? Is it the sound of wind blowing through the trees, bees buzzing in a meadow or the sound of thunder in the distance? Does inspiration come from a dream or despair? These questions are what inspired me to create the artwork for my 2017 piano. My concept centers around the mysterious and elusive Muse. She is depicted as a golden light in a night sky. Her face is slightly turned away, her hair wraps around the sides and top of the piano and morphs into trees, a meadow, a waterfall.. On one side the image is quiet and dreamy, on the other it's bursting with lightning and thunder. The front of the piano is lush with life: trees, flowers, birds and bugs... the back is a desolate desert. All these emotions are what I imagine runs through the mind and heart of composers and musicians. I used mixed media to create this piece, including Swarovski crystals, small mirrors, gold and silver leaf and mylar.
