Artist Statement: For some people, music is their safe place. Music is an opportunity to be fluid in an otherwise rigid world. Music is an opportunity to evolve, to transition, to realign. Music can be crisp and cool or bendy, flexible and moldable. To me, tie-dye is the personification of all of these things and combined with the fresh breath of a new day, I created a sunrise inspired tie-dye design. The waves of dots - imperfect, textured, or flat - convey the fluidity of the music, but also the possibility of surprises. Like polkadots, present and punctuating, they work together with the sunrise to create the overall energy of peace, love, and harmony.
I began painting moccasins as a creative outlet after the birth of my 2nd son. I posted some pictures online, and a few friends ordered some custom pair for upcoming baby showers. Word traveled fast and I began painting moccasins full time. Soon, I opened an Etsy shop, launched my own website and began shipping my handpainted designs worldwide. Bloggers, boutiques and A list celebrities started to enjoy my work also. In 2016, Minnetonka Moccasin Co reached out to start up an exclusive collaboration, now sold in 120 stores and online. Last year I developed a series of hands-on workshops for children to promote confidence and teach artistic expression. I grew up playing the piano, and my boys, Maxwell (12) and Magnus (5) play the clarinet and cello. Music has surrounded my entire life and continues to be the driving force behind my inspiration. My goal is to help people feel encouraged, inspired and to feel good. I'm in love with SFH's mission and feel it aligns perfectly with mine.
